Domaine de Chantelle, AOC Cahors
Domaine de Chantelle is a family vineyard bordering the banks of the Lot river in the Cahors region of south-west France. Now extending to 36 hectares under vines, the vineyard has been in the Brunet family for three generations.
The Malbec grape dominates here and is also known locally as 'Cot' or 'Auxerrois'. The famous black wine of Cahors is rich in tannins and its aromas suggest cherries, damson plums and soft black fruits. With age, the wine develops another dimension of aromas sometimes violets or licorice, and with increasing maturity, leather and even truffles.
While a certain quantity of Cahors wine is raised in oak barrels, we have deliberately selected two unoaked varieties. It is our firm belief that Malbec is already a powerful grape that benefits little from oak aging.
